I met Marla at The Bloggy Conference in Sandusky, Ohio last fall. I was leading the discussion in the Special Needs Parenting Breakout Session and we had a wonderful time connecting. She is a gifted writer and advocate for her son, Jacob, and the Down Syndrome community. When her son, Jacob, was born with a congenital heart defect and down syndrome she knew her life would never be the same again. She was thrown into the the world of special needs parenting and although our children’s needs are drastically different, her heart for helping other families is much like mine. I loved meeting her son and hearing about all that she is doing to help and encourage the Down Syndrome community. When she reached out to me to be a contributing author for her new magazine I couldn’t say no! The idea of putting a magazine together to encourage and support women within the special needs community is perfect and one that everyone should read.
The first issue of the magazine was released on Saturday night and I couldn’t go to bed until I had read it from cover to cover. It’s perfectly done and the women that are featured are doing incredible things and I know they wear invisible capes, tiaras AND halos. I feel honored to be included amongst these women.
